What do Mormons believe?

Reflection

The heart of what Latter-day Saints believe is found in the restoration of the ancient gospel of Jesus Christ. It centers on the divine mission of Jesus Christ, His atoning sacrifice, and His resurrection, which makes possible eternal life for all who believe in Him and keep His commandments. The scriptures speak of a loving Heavenly Father who desires to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of His children.

Central to this belief is the understanding that God continues to reveal His will to humankind through prophets, just as He did in ancient times. This ongoing revelation, preserved in the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price, alongside the Bible, guides individuals and families toward a deeper relationship with God and a more meaningful life. The teachings emphasize personal revelation, the importance of faith, repentance, baptism by proper authority, and the gift of the Holy Ghost to guide and comfort.

The ultimate purpose, as understood from these sacred texts, is to become more like our Heavenly Father, to experience joy, and to return to live with Him again. This journey is made possible through Christ's Atonement, allowing for the forgiveness of sins and the overcoming of death. The teachings offer a framework for understanding our divine nature, our earthly journey, and our eternal destiny.
