Reflection
Zen, as it has blossomed in the world, is a path of mindful presence, an invitation to directly experience the nature of reality. It often speaks of awakening, not as a future event, but as a realization that is available in each unfolding moment. This awakening is not about accumulating knowledge, but about seeing through illusion, recognizing the inherent peace and interconnectedness that lies at the heart of all things.
The practice of Zen, often centered around meditation (zazen), is a way to quiet the incessant chatter of the mind, to observe thoughts and feelings without judgment, and to rest in the stillness that underlies them. It's about letting go of striving and grasping, and instead, simply being with what is. This can lead to a profound sense of liberation and compassion, a deeper understanding of oneself and others.
Passages

"If one, celebrating life, does not dwell on the past, nor is anxious about the future, then he is delivered from sorrow. He is delivered from sorrow." — Sutta Nipata 1.10 · Buddhist Scripture
"The mind is everything. What you think you become." — paraphrased, Bhagavad Gita 3.42 · Hindu Scripture
